StoryFutures Academy (the UK’s National Centre for Immersive Storytelling run by the National Film and Television School and Royal Holloway, University of London) presents, in association with Uplands Television 'The People's Piazza: Behind The Scenes Of A Virtual Production'.

Episode 1: The Beginning

In this episode hear from the team behind the Uplands TV and BBC documentary 'The People's Piazza: A History of Covent Garden', and how Virtual Production technology helped bring to life the archival material of the historically renowned Covent Garden Piazza.

Episode 2: Writing and Performance

In this episode it explores how writing and performance are impacted by Virtual Production technology. Learn how presenter David Olusoga had to adapt his performance to interact with the LED wall and how Writer/Director Chris Durlacher modified his more traditional pre-production methods of shooting a documentary.

Episode 3: Bringing Archive to Life

In this episode it explores the process of using archive material such as architectural drawings, supplied by the BFI Archive, which are then re-created and rendered in UNREAL game engine by the production vendors Final Pixel. The Virtual Art Department (VAD) explain how these stylised virtual environments can be manipulated in real-time at the request of the Director - a game-changing feature for documentary film production.

Episode 4: Closing the Skills Gap

In this episode it highlights the lack of skills and cross-department knowledge in the industry when filming with Virtual Production (VP) technology. Hear from the Uplands TV crew on how StoryFutures Academy helped up-skill them in VP with hands-on experience shooting ‘The People's Piazza: A History of Covent Garden’ documentary.
