StoryFutures Creative Data Hackathon: Reinventing metadata handling in the media industry

New dates: The deadline to express your interest is now 22nd April

Are you a company working in interface design or database building? Would you like to work with some of the world’s leading film and television post-production and VFX houses? Would you like to help develop a potentially game-changing tool to handle metadata and open up a global market of opportunity?

StoryFutures has teamed up with 5-times Oscar winners DNEG and Evolutions, one of the UK’s largest full service post-production companies, to issue an open call for a Hackathon addressing our metadata challenge. On offer is the chance to develop a £20,000 user-facing prototype addressing sector-wide challenges in metadata.

The challenge is to develop an open source tool for use in media post-production to track, update and share metadata globally. The successful solution will demonstrate the potential for tying metadata to a timeline, developing a new industry standard for a single customisable solution to shared problems. We anticipate this will attract further funding and develop well beyond an initial prototype.

The Creative Data Hackathon is a rare chance to meet and work with key post-production players, and to become part of the solution to their shared problems. Up to 4 selected companies will receive £500 to participate in the Hackathon and develop initial ideas for better database design and management. Over two days the selected companies will gain privileged access to DNEG and Evolutions along with cutting edge research from StoryFutures. Following the Hackathon event, companies will be invited to submit a pitch to develop a deliverable prototype capable of supporting the creative workflows of the UK’s world-leading post-production sector.
